چکیده
A 56-year-old man whose chief complaint was lumbago came to our outpatient clinic . He had mild muscle tenderness in his lower back ; however, neurologic examinations showed no abnormality . Plain films of the lumbar spine were normal. On MR a small highintensity area was seen in the spinal canal of the fourth lumbar vertebra in spin-echo sequences (1200/60 (TR/TE]) (Fig . 1 A). The mass was isointense compared with CSF in inversion recovery sequences (1400/420 (TR/TI]). The possibility of a spinal tumor was considered, and the patient was admitted. Myelography (Fig . 1 B) and X-ray CT showed a small mass less than 1 cm in diameter in the subarachnoid space of the fourth lumbar vertebral body. The mass was diagnosed as a small tumor of the cauda equina. The patient's lumbago disappeared after bed rest , and we did not think that it was related to the tumor. Surgery revealed a yellowish , elastic, soft mass 8 x 5 x 5 mm that was attached to one of the nerve roots of the cauda equina (Fig . 1 C). Complete removal of the mass was easy. Pathologic examinations showed neurinoma. The patient had no neurologic deficit after the operation.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Caused by a Spinal Neurinoma at the Cauda Equina Level: A Case Report
Neurinomas are common space-occupying lesions located in the spinal canal. Many reports concerning their clinical characteristics, diagnoses, treatments, and operative results have been published. Some case reports have discussed spinal neurinomas located at the cauda equina level. However, there is little information on their natural history. Here, we report a case of spinal neurinoma located ...
متن کاملParaganglioma of the filum terminale mimicking neurinoma: Case report
BACKGROUND Paraganglioma of the filum terminale is an uncommon tumor of cauda equina region. Lumbar radiculopathies are revelations that can get complicated from cauda equina syndrome. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allows the diagnosis without distinguishing it from a neurofibroma. Only histopathological study can bring certainty in the diagnosis. The treatment of choice is a complete remova...
متن کاملMR imaging findings in cauda equina gnathostomiasis.
We report a case of cauda equina syndrome caused by Gnathostoma spinigerum, which was confirmed by an immunoblotting test. MR imaging of the lumbosacral spine showed long, segmented hyperintensity along the cauda equina with irregular enhancement on the postcontrast study. The conus medullaris was slightly enlarged with abnormal enhancement. The patient was treated with corticosteroids, and her...
متن کاملParaganglioma of the cauda equina with associated intramedullary cyst: MR findings.
The MR imaging features of a paraganglioma of the cauda equina with associated spinal cord cysts are presented. MR imaging showed the tumor to be isointense with the spinal cord on all pulse sequences and to enhance homogeneously. The intramedullary cysts had increased signal intensity on proton density- and T2-weighted images, and involved the cervical and thoracic regions.
متن کاملMR of the cauda equina.
To define the anatomy of the cauda equina nerve roots by MR imaging, the lower spine of 14 normal volunteers was imaged using a high-field surface-coil technique. A total of 56 sagittal and 56 axial MR sections (eight selected slices from each case) were correlated with undistorted anatomic sections from cadaver spine specimens, and the visualization of the nerve roots was assessed. In addition...
